Visions & Dreams
 Differences Between Visions and Dreams
The main difference between visions and dreams in the Bible is that dreams are received while the person is sleeping while visions are received while the person is awake and they are often “in the Spirit.”  So many people today claim that they have visions and dreams from God but how can they know for sure if they are? Have you noticed a person with eyes open, looking at you but after sometime you realize they were not even seeing you in the picture? Nowadays that spiritual technology is very active. Humans seem to be having an invisible communication between our present (physical kingdom) and an invisible (yet very present) spiritual kingdom.

If the dream or vision comes true 100% of the time and if they completely agree with biblical doctrine, the dream indeed may be from God but again, these are not the normative because we already have what God wants to say to us and His will is revealed in the Scriptures.  We cannot put God in a box but neither can we build doctrine or have new beliefs that are of human origin that come from visions or dreams and have as their source, human beings.  If anyone has a vision or dream and it doesn’t square up with what the Bible says, you can be certain that it is not from God.  It is either random or it is from the Enemy.

The dreams that we have should be to build our lives not to entrap us. Witches use dreams to trap their victims. For example if you dream Ëating"in a dream, my advice to you is that you must wake up immediately and make a prayer to reverse that dream. You might have just swallowed a spiritual tracker or trap or poison. Whatever it is, now the witches/wizard who fed that to you (through your dream) will have access and control in to your  life without you knowing.

 Visions
Definition:
The Greek word /horama/ means to supernaturally gaze at an object externally or have an inspired appearance internally. Each vision usually has its own purpose, but one general purpose is that it inspires the beholder.
Peter starts by reminding the people of the prophecy of Prophet Joel (2:28) that their sons and daughters will prophesy, their old men shall dream dreams, and their young men shall see visions when the Holy Spirit came on them. The old men will dream dreams because they have experienced many things. They are now old and do no more have the strength to do new things. The young men will see visions because they have the strength, but they have not experienced new things. They have the ambition. Considering that the society did not have a place for the woman, they did not expect them to have any ambition other than how to have children for the man and take care of the household duties, in addition to the general functions of prophecy (foretell and forthtell) which were also given to men. There were at least three visions in Acts of Apostles.

Dreams For Intercessors (Very Prayerful People)

Dreams about the future. If your heart is right with God. God can trust you with dreams related to a community, a family, a nation or a generation. When God entrusts you with such kind of a dream, you must still ask him or find out / research / seek an answer as to how does He (as the Message Holder) expect you to pass (The Message). Such Dreams are usually delivered to prayerful people. If you are not prayerful, you cannot be trusted with dreams related to other people. If you do not have love in your heart, why would God trust you with a dream to that is related to saving soccer fans from collapsing stadium or a terrorist attack. Keep in mind that, when God shows you things in dreams it's for you to be aware. You do not always have to change the future but God sometimes does not want you to be unaware, when you are aware you are able to relate and realize there is a higher power in control of our lives.

Joel (Bible Reference)

Joel prophesied about dreams and visions in Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.”  The very fact that Joel writes that dreams and visions will come indicates that they are not the same thing.  Why else would Joel delineate between the two with the word “and?”  Clearly, dreams are not the same thing as visions and we can discover the main differences from the truest source there is…the Word of God, the Bible.

Biblical Dreams are Prophetic

When dreams are mentioned in the Bible, they are almost always prophetic in nature and when they are fulfilled at a later time, they are validated as having their source from God.  I have heard from many who say that they have dreams and I am then asked what these dreams mean.  It is impossible for me to interpret dreams because I am no Joseph who not only had dreams which came true, but had been given the ability from God to interpret dreams (Gen 40).  I have no such gift.  Without that gift, it is impossible for me or anyone else to interpret someone else’s dream.  I would say that any time that a dream seems contrary to what is written in the Scriptures, then that dream cannot be used as something that God has sent because God would never contradict Himself by sending a dream that goes against what is revealed in His written Word, the Bible.  All I can say is that the dream may have come from God but dreams are so random in nature that it is humanly impossible to say with any authority whether they are from God or just something that they ate before bedtime.  God can use dreams to try and communicate to people and I will not limit what God can do but we already know for certain what God’s will is and it is found recorded in the Scriptures so there is no reason to guess about it.

Always pray after you had a dream that you really want an answer to. Do not delay because you are enjoying your sleep. Wake up and make a one minute to 10 minute prayer if you can even extend your prayer time if it's possible. If that dream was an attack, invite God to do counter attack or for protection as you sleep from evil arrows against your life. If that dream was about good things, pray that whatever you saw should not be snatched by the enemy, it should come to pass as you saw it.

In my next issue I shall share more about Dreams About the Future / Dreams For Intercessors.

I have been approached by many with questions related to their dream-life. Should you be interested in finding out what your dream could be meaning, do not hesitate to leave your comment below of follow me here :   http://dreamcounsellor.blogspot.co.za/

I believe dreams are messages from heaven. Therefore if you are ignorant then you will always be complaining about your life but if you are wise you will review your dream-life and start connecting the dots. Your dream could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
